Re: Geneva Chess available on Musketeerchess.net
The diagram still leaves it unclear over which square the oblique initial moves can be reached (i.e. where they couldbe blocked), and where after them an enemy Pawn has to move to in order to e.p. capture. If I understood Zied correctly, these are actually different squares, so that e.p. capture is ...

Re: NextGen Pawns, how to improve the Classic Chess Pawn
OK, so they capture diagonally forward, as usual. And the promoted piece can be captured e.p. My first impression is that Berolina, Shogi and Merry Pawns will work reasonably well; the others will probably not feel very Pawn-like. A less extreme version of Merry Pawns would be Metamachy Pawns: they ...

Re: NextGen Pawns, how to improve the Classic Chess Pawn
It is not possible to judge pieces for which it is not fully specified how they move. I have for instance no idea what your picture for the Merry Pawn means? How do they capture normally? How do they e.p. capture? Most of the Pawns are not really Pawns, but weak pieces that can roam the entire board...

Re: Win-Draw rates when playing with various modified Pawns: The Berolina Pawns
Very interesting. I have a number of questions:
* What engine did you use for this research?
* How exactly did you determine the value of the various pieces?
* What does 'passer' mean for a Berolina Pawn?

Re: NextGen Pawns, how to improve the Classic Chess Pawn
A double capture will always be a possibility when you allow an en passant capture to occur by moving to a square that the previously pushed Pawn does not have to pass through (so that it can be occupied). The only guarantee that the e.p. square will be empty is when the double push would be blocked...

Re: NextGen Pawns, how to improve the Classic Chess Pawn
And that new way involves capturing two Pawns in a single move?

Re: NextGen Pawns, how to improve the Classic Chess Pawn
so if a pawn on b2 can go to a4 (move is b2-b3-b4-a4 or b2-b3-a4) a pawn on a3 cannot make an en-passant move !! The en-passant for the NextGen Pawns was adapted for their particular abilities. So when they make a special 2 square advance move the pawn just in front an located 2 squares farther is ...

Re: NextGen Pawns, how to improve the Classic Chess Pawn
For example, even with a Knight like move, the colonel from b2 moving to a4 (possible only if b3 square free) if there is a Black colonel on b4 it can make an en-passant towards a3 !! I brought it up because it is something that is not apparent from the diagrams you post. And what you say here is v...

Re: NextGen Pawns, how to improve the Classic Chess Pawn
Hi HG A pleasure to have you here. En-passant is possible even when a NextGen Pawn makes a special 2 square initial move. For example, even with a Knight like move, the colonel from b2 moving to a4 (possible only if b3 square free) if there is a Black colonel on b4 it can make an en-passant towards...

Re: NextGen Pawns, how to improve the Classic Chess Pawn
It might be a good idea to spend some words on the en-passant capture capabilities of all these 'Pawns'. Does any initial double push create e.p. rights on the square it passes over? And is any capture-empowered move of an opponent Pawn then able to perform an e.p. capture by ending on this square? ...
