I think he means with 'the same piece' that black and white get the same piece, no matter who chooses it. Not that black chooses the same piece as white when his turn to choose comes up, so that each player has a pair of those. (Which I thought was not allowed by the rules anyway.) And I agree with...

Hi

The engine is based on php and java.

It was designed to support almost any board game (not specifically chess). It’s somewhat a project like Zillions of Games.

It could be made stronger it’s decent 1700 rating in strong mode for chess.

I’m not certainly the right person that could answer your question. I suggest you ask HG Muller a more skilled programmer that masters minimax use with his Minimax engine.
